Asher White – ‘Beers With My Name on Them’
Asher Whitehas over a dozen albums under her belt, but the just-announced 8 Tips for Catastrophe Living, out September 12, marks her debut for Joyful Noise. If you’ve never heard of the NYC-by-way-of-Rhode Island singer-songwriter, now is a good time to start paying attention, and her new song ‘Beers With My Name on Them’ is very good – provided you can handle a transition from power pop to pummeling techno. “The idea of tips for catastrophe is really funny to me,” White commented. “I was interested in making something that sounds like a self-help book, but it’s actually about self-destruction. In full catastrophe living, you just have to do a bunch of whippets. This album is mostly about doing whippets. I’m not even kidding.”
Clipse – ‘So Be It’
Clipse have dropped ‘So Be It’, the second single from their comeback album Let God Sort Em Out. The hard-hitting track arrives alongside a mesmerizing black-and-white video directed by Hannan Hussain.
Motion City Soundtrack – ‘She Is Afraid’
Minneapolis-based pop-punk band Motion City Soundtrack have announced their first new album in a decade, The Same Old Wasted Wonderful World. Out September 17 via Epitaph, it’s led by the single ‘She Is Afraid’, which is quite anthemic. “As soon as I heard Josh’s bonkers guitar part, I flipped out,”singer/guitarist Justin Pierre said. “I don’t know how he does it. I’d been listening to a lot of Del the Funky Homosapien around the time of writing the lyrics, and I think his influence comes out a bit in the verses (but hopefully in a way that doesn’t sound totally derivative). I think the rest of the tune owes a debt of gratitude to That Dog for sure. Matt mentioned he hears some Faith No More in the tune, which is always a good sign, and now I hear it too. Hell, I learned how to be weird on stage watching Mike Patton on the You Fat Bastards (Live At The Britton Academy London) videocassette as a teenager in ‘90/‘91. I wore that shit out.”
Nourished by Time – ‘9 2 5’

Liquid Mike – ‘AT&T’
Liquid Mike have a new song out called ‘AT&T’, which sounds both catchy and lonely. “It was inspired by an ugly breakup between someone very close to me and someone I had a lot of contempt for at the time,” frontman Mike Maple explained. “I wanted to confront him, but I realized the way things were going, he was suffering enough — just a lonely guy with no one to talk to but himself and the bugs in the wall… The song you hear is practically the demo that I initially laid down when I wrote it a week or so before submitting the album. I think that’s why it’s my favorite song on the album, just felt like a spur of the moment happy accident.” It’s set to appear on their forthcoming album Hell Is an Airport.
bar italia – ‘Cowbella’
bar italia’s members have been quite busy with various projects this year, but they haven’t released music as a trio since 2024’s The Tw*ts EP. That changes today with ‘Cowbella’, one of the most immediate songs they’ve released to date. The music video is still pretty mysterious, though.
Winter – ‘Misery’ [feat. Horse Jumper of Love]
Winter has enlisted Horse Jumper of Love’s Dimitri Giannopoulos for a new single called ‘Misery’, from her upcoming Adult Romantix, that invokes Elliott Smith. “This song was written with my friend Alex Craig,” Samira Winter explained. “At first, we imagined a fictional story about being in love with someone who was unavailable, leaning into the romanticization of indulging in a kind of sadness. However, during the recording process, the story of Elliott Smith’s love and tragic death came up, which in turn inspired the song title and the rest of the lyrics written by Dimitri. The song was originally written at a faster tempo, but we discovered that slowing it down on the tape machine created an interesting androgynous effect on my voice.” Giannopoulos added: “I was excited when Samira hit me up to sing on her track – she told me some of the backstory of the song, how it was a nod to Elliott Smith. That made me want to channel the inspiration he has given me as a songwriter and in my vocal delivery. Samira’s clear vision of what the song needed to be made it easy to write a verse with her and I’m happy with the way it came out.”
The Mary Onettes – ‘Hurricane Heart’ and ‘Eyes Open’ [feat. Makthaverskan’s Maja Milner]
Swedish dream pop outfit the Mary Onettes have been sporadically releasing new music over the past few years, and today they’re back with two new songs, ‘Hurricane Heart’ and ‘Eyes Open’ (featuring Makthaverskan’s Maja Milner), which are both lush and enchanting.

Jerskin Fendrix – ‘Beth’s Farm’
Poor Creature? How about Poor Thing? That’s a regrettable segue into Poor Things composer Jerskin Fendrix’s new album Once Upon A Time. . . In Shropshire, which has been announced today along with the enveloping single ‘Beth’s Farm’. “I wrote this album during a period of sudden and unrelated deaths,” Fendrix explained. “A friend, family members, animals, and eventually my father. My album about Shropshire is a twofold testament. Looking back on the world where I grew up, its beauty and innocence and wonder – then watching it become corrupted, death by death, until the entire dream was shattered.”
Dean Johnson – ‘Before You Hit the Ground’
Recently signed to Saddle Creek, Dean Johnson has announced his debut for the label, I Hope We Can Still Be Friends, arriving out August 22. It’s led by the curiously optimistic ‘Before You Hit the Ground’, of which Johnson said: “This song speaks to the challenges I’ve had writing upbeat lyrics, and more broadly suggests how difficult it’s become to feel hopeful amidst the literal and figurative tornadoes and tempests surrounding all of us. These sentiments contrast references to Buddy Holly, a guy renowned for finding the sunny side. Ultimately, it has more congruity with his plane going down and evokes the growing divide between us and the chances of happy outcomes. Hey Buddy, did ya close your eyes and pray that you would wake up?”
Westside Cowboy – ‘Alright Alright Alright’
Manchester quartet Westside have announced their debut EP, This Better Be Something Great, with the the rowdy lead single ‘Alright Alright Alright’. “This song was the first original thing we ever played as a band, before we had any real ambition for the project to reach the ears of anyone outside of that room,” Westside Cowboy explained. “It is a punk song about a cowboy, and if anyone can take away any more from it than that, consider us impressed.”
