“As I started releasing these songs, there was an overriding theme of the classic Brooks & Dunn ‘90s country style with a tip of the hat to the outlaw lifestyle Waylon and Willie embodied back in the day,” James explains. As the underlying themes began to merge, the concept of “Weekend Outlaw” naturally developed. Inspired by the artist’s own experience balancing a medical career with a passion for music, the project speaks to those who embrace one identity during the workweek but pursue personal ambitions beyond it—whether that means running marathons, exploring the outdoors, or following a creative calling. At its core, the message is about identifying what truly matters and having the courage to live authentically.
