Mary-Louise Parker Steps Out for Rare Appearance With Daughter Ash

Mary-Louise Parker stepped out for a rare appearance alongside her daughter, Caroline “Ash” Aberash Parker.
The mother-daughter duo attended The Institute premiere during SXSW London 2025 on Thursday, June 5, posing for photos on the red carpet. Mary-Louise, 60, rocked a powder blue suit while Ash, 18, went with an all-black suit, paired with a sparkly shirt underneath.
Mary-Louise adopted Ash from Ethiopia in 2007. The actress is also a mother to son William Atticus Parker, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend Billy Crudup.
While the Weeds alum doesn’t speak much about her children, she did gush over Ash during a 2008 interview.

“I can’t adopt 500 children, but I did adopt this one beautiful little girl, and it was an amazing thing,” she said at the New Yorker Festival. The following year, Mary-Louise referred to her daughter as “a little warrior,” calling Ash “really amazing.”
As Ash has gotten older, Mary-Louise has continued to detail her relationship with her daughter — calling the teen one of the “most beautiful women on Earth” in a 2020 interview, and revealing how they’ve become quite similar.
“I once heard Stevie Nicks say that no matter what else happened at night, even if she was stumbling down drunk, she made sure to clean her face. I have, more than once, forcibly pushed a friend staying the night into the bathroom to clean their face,” she told The Bare magazine. “Now my daughter is the same way, and she’s like me in that she loves makeup but doesn’t wear a lot of it.”
Kevin Costner’s Son Hayes Set to Appear in Actor’s New Film
This recent outing marked the first time Mary-Louise and Ash posed together on a red carpet since 2019. At the time, the actress had both of her children by her side as she attended David Lynch Foundation’s Women of Vision Awards Benefit Luncheon in New York City.
Thursday’s premiere celebrated the upcoming release of Mary-Louise’s horror thriller The Institute, which is set to air on MGM+ next month. The series is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name.
The red carpet saw Mary-Louise posing alongside her daughter but also had the actress reuniting with her cast members. The series also stars Ben Barnes, Simone Miller, Joe Freeman and Fionn Laird, all of whom were also at Thursday’s event.
The show is set to follow genius Luke Ellis (Freeman), who possesses unnatural abilities and wakes up in a place full of kids experiencing a similar fate. Mary-Louise will play Ms. Sigsby, who runs The Institute.
The Institute is set to premiere on MGM+ Sunday, July 13.
