‘AJLT’ Recap: Carrie Is Surprised by Aidan — And Rats — at New Townhouse

A few unexpected visitors dropped by Carrie Bradshaw’s new Gramercy Park home — but some of the surprises were better than others.
During the Thursday, June 5, episode of And Just Like That season 3, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) was writing in her dreamy Manhattan garden when dozens of rats ran out from the bushes. Startled, Carrie rushed inside and composed a lengthy text to Aidan (John Corbett), joking that she was hiding upstairs because she didn’t know if rats were capable of climbing steps. She ultimately deleted the paragraph. (ICYMI, Carrie and Aidan put a five-year pause on their relationship so he could focus on raising his sons in Virginia.)
To fix her “rat superhighway,” Carrie’s garden had to be entirely cleared out. Upstairs, Carrie was spooked by her cat, Shoe, before getting an even bigger surprise: Aidan appeared in her room.
Aidan explained that his youngest son, Wyatt, was with his ex-wife, Kathy, for the night, so he decided to pay Carrie a visit. “I felt weird about shutting you down when you called the other night,” he told Carrie, who unsuccessfully attempted to initiate phone sex with Aidan while his son slept beside him during the season 3 premiere.

Later, while the pair sat in the kitchen, Carrie used her rat problem to prompt a discussion with Aidan about the status of their complicated relationship..
“So you felt weird about the other night and I’ve been feeling weird about something, too,” she began. “I’m trying to give you the space to be fully there for Wyatt and the boys, but sometimes things happen and I want to tell you about them. You know, like the rats. I wrote this whole long text to you and I just, I felt like I couldn’t send it.”
Aidan insisted that it was “crazy” for Carrie to feel that way, making her even more “lost” about their arrangement.
“I’m kinda lost, too,” Aidan admitted. “I was so upset and I think guilty for being up here the night of Wyatt’s accident, maybe I went a little overboard. I mean, I gotta stay f***ing laser focused on the situation at home. But you can text me — little stuff, big stuff. Call me, if it’s important.”

Carrie teased, “So, any time? Only during business hours? Weekends? Are operators standing by?” Aidan said he might not always pick up, but reassured her that she could “fire away” any time.
Noting that the conversation made her “feel better” about their relationship, Carrie explained, “That garden was the reason why I said something. You know, I thought everything was just perfect out there, but I just wasn’t looking underneath. I’m just trying to look underneath this.”
While Aidan confessed that their situation was “far from perfect,” he joked that the couple were in a “rat-free zone.”
And Just Like That airs on Max Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
