Dale Moss may have surprised Us with his decision to go on Bachelor in Paradise, but the Bachelorette alum insists he is ready for a second shot at love on TV.

“I wanted to give up control and just see what was out there,” Dale, 36, told Us Weekly during an exclusive interview on set of BiP in Costa Rica. “I’m really head down with travel and work and projects and things like that, but I definitely realized that there’s more out there and sometimes you have to remove yourself from certain situations to get more clarity on that.”

Bachelor Nation met Dale on season 16 of The Bachelorette, where he got engaged to Clare Crawley less than two weeks into production in 2020. (After they left the show together, ABC tapped Tayshia Adams to restart the season.)

“I think the biggest thing now is that I feel really clear about what I want,” Dale told Us of how he will tackle Paradise differently than The Bachelorette. “It is definitely going to be a different approach, and I think the framework in the setup of the show is a lot different.”

Dale hinted that the dynamic between the lead and the contestants on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette can create “insecurities” that aren’t as prevalent in Paradise.

“Previously, I know that [I had] a lot of insecurities that most men have, too — they want to be a caretaker. They want to heal all these problems,” he said. “In this one, that’s still there a little bit, but I do know that it’s important for both people to have their needs met and I just have the boundaries on. It’s going to be different.”

Dale, who will be among the first 16 people on the beach, noted that “Paradise has a lot of options” — and he isn’t ruling out getting down on one knee.

“I’ve realized that it takes time to really get to know somebody, and you find out a lot when you step off a show,” he admitted. “And I think things don’t have to be rushed. So never say never because that happened before. But I’ve learned a lot on just how I approach relationships and you got to take your time to fight out what’s right.”

Dale and Clare ended their engagement for good in fall 2021 after a rocky year together. He told Us that he didn’t keep up with Bachelor Nation in recent years, meaning he had no “preconceived notions” about any of the women he is going to meet.

“I came into this just wanting to be open,” he said. “And it’s a big commitment for anyone. I’ve been pretty out of the loop in the franchise for a long time.”

While he might take a minute to readjust to filming again, Dale was excited that BiP made the move from Mexico to Costa Rica for season 10.

“This is kind of my home away from home. I’ve been down here a lot since November — six times,” he said. “I just like being here and I’m just excited for the experience to hang with everyone and just see what happens.”

When asked for a prediction, Dale told Us that he thinks he is going to meet someone “fire.”

Bachelor in Paradise premieres on ABC Monday, July 7, at 8 p.m. ET.
