The Facts of Life star Nancy McKeon has opted for a quieter way of life after finding huge TV success in the ‘80s.

After joining the beloved sitcom for season two in 1980 as gritty transfer student Jo Polniaczek at fancy boarding school Eastland School for Girls, McKeon’s star blossomed as she worked alongside castmates Kim Fields (Tootie), Mindy Cohn (Natalie), Lisa Whelchel (Blair) and Charlotte Rae (Mrs. Garrett).

When the NBC show wrapped in 1988, McKeon, 59, continued to find work on the small screen in projects like Can’t Hurry Love, Style & Substance and The Division plus numerous TV movies.

But in more recent years, McKeon has opted for far fewer red carpet appearances and social media posts. Instead, she has chosen to live a quieter, more private life in New York with her husband Marc Andrus.

Married since 2003, the couple share daughters Aurora, 21, and Harlow, 18, and choose to keep their family life off the grid — minus a few major milestones.

“…It’s not often you know exactly where you were…20 years ago 🙃,” McKeon wrote via Instagram in June 2023 when celebrating her anniversary. “…What a great day …I love you♥♥ #love #grateful.”

More recently, McKeon had the opportunity to make her New York City stage debut in the Off-Broadway production of Pen Pals. The show is about two women who have maintained a pen-pal friendship for over 50 years.

When asked if she prefers the stage or screen, the actress couldn’t pick just one.

“I don’t think I could choose; being able to experience it all is a privilege!” she told DC Theater Arts in December 2024 before sharing her favorite qualities about the new character she plays. “Her love and loyalty to the people she loves.”

The play has since gone on to hold shows in Los Angeles, which benefited those impacted by the Los Angeles fires.

“Such a joy to share this ’bucket list’ dream come true!” McKeon wrote via Instagram in November 2024, when the play first launched. “Growing up in my hometown of Forest Hills, NY (in Queens😊) the idea of one day, hopefully, being a part (however small!) of the theatre community was just a dream! Now, many years later, a debut 50 years in the making!🤭😃….so proud to be a part of such an amazing company!!”

‘The Facts of Life’ Cast Relationships: See Who the Stars Married IRL

Describing herself as an “introvert,” McKeon told DC Theater Arts that she enjoys the simple things in life, like traveling or cooking for family and friends. At the same time, the best part about being a public figure is the “kindness” she receives “from the people I meet.”

When asked to share a role or show she would like to play next, McKeon kept her options open. She does, however, hope the next role won’t focus so much on body image and weight – a theme she experienced working on The Facts of Life.

“Not specifically,” she said, “but imagining all the possibilities is fun!”
