Is This Whoopi Goldberg’s Dumbest Rant Ever?

Whoopi Goldberg is the unofficial leader of TV’s dumbest show.

The Oscar winner presides over “The View,” a daily mashup of hate, misinformation and wide-eyed conspiracy theories, all in the name of female empowerment.

And Goldberg is often the worst offender.

This week, the “Color Purple” star battled her co-hosts in a race to the intellectual bottom. Goldberg, who previously suggested President Donald Trump would separate interracial families, staked out even crazier territory regarding news from Iran.

The tyrannical country is under attack from Israel, and the subject is one of the hottest topics on talk shows, podcasts and social media.

Enter “The View.”

In this segment shared by X user Collin Rugg, Goldberg battles both Sarah Haines and Alyssah Farah Griffin. The comic actress dodged and weaved throughout the clip, equating America to Iran in ways that shocked even her co-hosts.

“Let’s remember, the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings,” Farah Griffin said, hoping to establish Iran’s barbaric nature.

Goldberg wasn’t having it, dismissing the regime’s cruel stance on homosexuality as if it didn’t matter.

“Let’s not do that,” Goldberg cried. “Because if we start with that, we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car.”

She may be referencing the 1998 death of Matthew Shepard, a tragic case that became more complicated as facts emerged.

Suffice to say an individual murder is not remotely equal to a cultural norm, but debate isn’t Goldberg’s strong suit. She then brought up U.S.-based lynchings, which were a horrific chapter in U.S. history but no longer dominate headlines or occur with any regularity.

Two straw men arguments in mere seconds. It’s vintage Whoopi. But she wasn’t done.

Farah Griffin tried to inject reason into the conversation, noting that she couldn’t dress like she does on an American TV set in Iran’s repressive regime.

“I can’t have my hair showing. I can’t wear a skirt,” Farah Griffin said.

Goldberg wasn’t moved, pushing forward with her equivalency argument.

“Murdering someone for their differences is not good, no matter who does it,” Goldberg said, stating the obvious and, apparently, stalling. The audience applauded all the same.

Farah Griffin tried to steer the conversation back to sanity anew.

“I think it’s very different to live in the United States in 2025 than it is in Iran,” she offered, trying to find common ground.

“Not if you’re black,” Goldberg countered.

It’s reminiscent of rocker John Mellencamp telling Bill Maher that black people in 2024 suffer the same as they did during the slavery era.

“Let me tell you about this country. This is the greatest country in the world,” Goldberg said before trashing it for its crime rate. “But every day we are worried. Do we have to be worried about our kids? Are our kids gonna be shot because they’re running through somebody’s neighborhood?”

Co-host Sara Haines steered the conversation back to the horrible plight of Iranian women. That seemed like a reasonable take given the show’s feminist bona fides.

No luck.

Farah Griffin attempted a final time to bring clarity to TV’s dumbest show.

“Nobody wants to diminish the very real problems we have in this country, but I think it’s important to remember there are places much darker than this country,” she began.

“Not everybody feels that way,” Goldberg answered, adding that black people weren’t granted the right to vote until 1965, a slippery reading of history to say the least.

“They don’t even have free and fair elections in Iran. It’s not even the same universe,” Farah Griffin tried to argue.

“There’s no way I can make you understand,” Goldberg said.

The Hollywood veteran finally made a cogent point. Who on earth could process what she’s saying on any given day?

Editor’s Note: It’s a brutal time to be an independent journalist, but it’s never been more necessary given the sorry state of the corporate press. If you’re enjoying Hollywood in Toto, I hope you’ll consider leaving a coin (or two) in our Tip Jar.
