JoJo Siwa Says ‘Everyone’s Journey Is Different’ in Impactful Pride Message

JoJo Siwa is ringing in 2025 Pride Month with an impactful message.

“Happy day 1 of the happiest month,” Siwa, 22, wrote via her Instagram Story on Sunday, June 1, alongside a series of rainbow hearts. “What I have learned over the last 22 years is that pride is all about love, acceptance and celebration.”

She continued, “No matter who you are or what you are, you are you, you are beautiful, and you are perfect. Everyone’s story is different and everyone’s journey is different.”

Siwa noted that the “most beautiful thing” about love is “that it’s just love.” She concluded, “Happy pride to the beautiful LGBTQIA+ community, to the allies, and to all that exist:).”

Siwa’s post comes months after she opened up about her identity and sexual orientation on season 24 of Celebrity Big Brother UK. (The Dance Moms alum came out as queer in January 2021.)

“I’ve always told myself I’m a lesbian, but I think being here, I’ve realized, ‘Oh no, I’m not a lesbian, I’m queer,’” she said in April. “I think that’s really cool. I’m switching letters.”

The next month, she clapped back at critics for questioning her sexuality.

“That was one of those conversations actually that I was having that I was like, ‘This will never see the light of day,’” Siwa exclusively told Us Weekly for a May cover story. “I don’t mind that it did, because I actually think it starts a very beautiful conversation of queer. I think queer joy is so special and so magical.”

Siwa noted that the LGBTQIA+ community is “so inclusive and accepting,” adding that sexuality is a “spectrum” and “so fluid.”

“People saying that my sexuality has been fake is actually crazy and a discredit to my life that I’ve had since I fell in love with my first girl,” Siwa said.

After appearing on Celebrity Big Brother UK and having conversations with fellow contestant Danny Beard, Siwa noted that she doesn’t “want to be in a box anymore.”

“Queer is a beautiful umbrella term for the LGBTQIA community,” Siwa explained. “I think that for me to be a woman and say I have a non-binary partner, but then also say I’m a lesbian is crazy. I just realized within myself that the way my eyes are to the world, I think I’m just queer. It has nothing to do with anything besides that. It’s nothing to be ashamed of. The world is going crazy with that one though. It flabbergasts me.”

As for whether being queer could mean she could be attracted to a man one day, Siwa did not turn down the idea.

“Welcome to being 21. Welcome to being queer,” she said. “I’ve changed a lot since I was 14 in the last seven years. I’m sure I’m going to change a lot until I’m 28. I have been in beautiful relationships with women, who I love and adore very much. I’ve been in a beautiful relationship with somebody who’s non-binary. I’ve been in a beautiful relationship with men, throwback to my original days.”

After leaving the Celebrity Big Brother UK house, Siwa ended her relationship with Kath Ebbs. She has since sparked romance rumors with fellow houseguest Chris Hughes, but told Us that their friendship had “absolutely nothing to do with my breakup.”

“We still speak all the time, obviously, naturally,” Siwa told Us of her status with Hughes, 32, at the time. “Now to be out of the house, we just exist, and it is what it is. We’re happy, and we have each other. It’s a great little special friendship that we have.”

Later that month, The Sun obtained photos of Siwa and Hughes kissing while on vacation in Mexico. (Us Weekly reached out to both Siwa and Hughes’ reps for comment at the time.)

Days later, she was asked during an appearance on ITV’s Lorraine whether Hughes was her boyfriend. “No,” Siwa replied, while laughing. “It’s so funny to me how straight-up people get nowadays.”

The next month, Siwa and Hughes made headlines when he shared a photo of the twosome cozying up together in bed. In the Sunday Snapchat pic, Siwa closed her eyes as she rested her head on his chest, while a shirtless Hughes pressed a kiss on her forehead. He captioned the post, “Sleeepinnn beauty.”
