Tame Impala leader Kevin Parker gave fans quite the thrill last night (June 7) during a DJ set at Barcelona’s Nitsa Club, when he debuted a song from what’s expected to be the group’s first new album since early 2020. A major Tame Impala tour is also in the works, with details expected in the coming days.

The new track has no title at the moment, with Parker telling the crowd before he hit play, “you’re going to be the first ones to hear it, you realize? There’s no going back from this point on. All right, let’s do it. Get comfortable.” Sonically, the tune has much more in common with the danceable pop Parker helped create for Dua Lipa on her 2024 album Radical Optimism as opposed to the guitar-based psychedelic rock of Tame Impala albums such as Lonerism.

More from Spin:

Lyrically, Parker seems to be reflecting on the end of a relationship when he sings, “everybody knows how I feel about you / so you can act surprised if you need to / and I am still your friend if you think it’s worth it / it just means that I’ll see you when I see you.”

Tame Impala hasn’t performed since March 2023, and Parker has spent the time since focusing both on the launch of his Orchid chord generator instrument and songwriting and production work for artists such as Lipa and Justice.

The group’s most recent album, The Slow Rush, which came out at the very outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, debuted at a career-best No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
