‘Love Island’ Gives Fan Favorite Couple a Happy Ending Amid Divisive Exits

Love Island USA knew backlash was imminent after that double elimination — so the show found a way to give a fan-favorite couple their happy ending.

During the Sunday, June 22, episode of the dating show — which airs daily with the exception of Wednesdays — Ace Greene, Amaya Espinal, Austin Shepard, Chelley Bissainthe, Cierra Ortega, Hannah Fields, Huda Mustafa, Iris Kendall, Jeremiah Brown, Pepe Garcia, Nic Vansteenberghe, Olandria Carthen, Taylor Williams and new bombshells TJ Palma and Andreina Santos were in for a surprise when America voted off two islanders right before Casa Amor.

The second half of the episode revealed which girls and guys received the most votes. The remaining group was left vulnerable — and were at risk of being dumped by their fellow islanders. The girls that got the most votes were Chelley, Cierra, Olandria and Huda. Taylor, Ace and Nic were the boys that received the most support online.

Since TJ and Andreina just got to the villa, they were exempt from America’s vote. They also couldn’t weigh in on which girl and guy were going to be sent packing. That decision was up to the safe islanders, with the girls choosing Hannah and the guys choosing Jeremiah.

The guys stood by their decision to vote off Jeremiah while citing America’s potential dislike of him — and his behavior with Huda in the villa — as their main reasons. The girls, however, appeared to regret choosing Hannah after hinting that she was sent home because she had already made good use of her time on the show while Iris and Amaya hadn’t yet.

Hannah and Jeremiah’s individual exits come one day before Casa Amor.

“I have been told there will be more twists and turns to Casa [Amor] than ever before,” host Ariana Madix revealed during the Saturday, June 21, episode of Aftersun. “They are going to start it very differently, getting [the islanders out in a way] they’ve never done before.”

Ariana hinted that this time the girls would be making the move while the guys stay back, adding, “I feel like I say a lot [that] ‘We’ve never done it before,’ but then it’s always something crazy we’ve never done before.”

Week 3 is already off to a tumultuous start for those watching at home. (The islanders are halfway through their third week in Fiji but for the sake of timeline, Us will be tracking the events based on when they air on Peacock.)

Most of Tuesday’s episode played out as expected. Amaya and TJ knew they were both at risk of leaving the villa so they spoke to the new bombshells to prevent that from happening. Elsewhere, the other couples got to know each other and questioned whether their bonds were as good as they assumed.

Things got messy later on when it was time for a recoupling. The girls had a quick elimination with Zak choosing Amaya over Olandria. This caused all the girls to burst into tears because they knew Olandria didn’t make any other connections that could save her. They were right and she was dumped from the villa 30 minutes later. She remained determined to find love despite not making it further in the show — and even hinted that she would reunite with Taylor after filming concluded.

The guys had a much more intense deliberation. Vanna stood up for TJ, which left Ace vulnerable. But then Coco wanted to couple up with Ace and that left Taylor up for grabs. Despite it looking like Olandria and Taylor would reunite sooner rather than later, Clarke chose him. That led to Nic being single and vulnerable. He formed a connection with Jaden but it wasn’t strong enough and she remained with Austin while Nic left.

Love Island, which issued a statement against fan harassment earlier in the episode, found a way to make it up to viewers. The last scene from the episode was Nic leaving the villa only for a black car (with the love license plate) to pull up. Olandria opened the door and told Nic to get in quick. The pair — who viewers have been shipping offscreen — rode off into the night together.

The islanders started the episode upset about Jeremiah and Hannah’s exits. The guys grilled the girls about why they chose Hannah (with Ace making it clear he wanted Amaya out). The girls were just as curious about what led to Jeremiah being voted off by his close friends.

In between the confusion, Nic and Cierra found time to get on the same page about how committed they were to their connection. Amaya, meanwhile, had a more difficult night after sobbing over being safe over Hannah.

All was forgotten the next morning when the islanders were told to prepare for a kissing competition. That is when the first twist was introduced with Ariana quietly sneaking the girls away to Casa Amor to meet six new guys: Elan, Bryan, Zach, Zak, JD and Chris.

The guys remained at the villa where they all took turns kissing the new girls — Graycen, Clarke, Vanna, Coco and Jaden — without knowing who they were.

Ariana then revealed that more changes were coming, starting with everyone now being single again. The guys have to form new girls with the new bombshells and the same with the girls in Casa Amor and the new men they were introduced to.

As a way to start from scratch, there would be new couples that each islander would remain in. They will then be returning to the villa with some tough choices because no one would be dumped if they didn’t bring someone back. Instead, every new bombshell is sticking around regardless of if the OG islanders want to remain coupled up with them or not.

The new couples over at the villa are: Vanna and Ace, Pepe and Graycen, Austin and Jaden, Taylor has Coco, Clarke and Nic and then TJ on his own after insulting every kiss he got. The new pairings at Casa Amor are JD and Huda, Elan and Cierra, Chelley and Chris, Zach and Iris, Brian and Andreina, Olandria and Zak and then Amaya is also riding solo for now.

TJ and Amaya have 24 hours to form a connection or else they risk getting dumped from the villa.

Before the controversial fire pit vote, Jeremiah had a good start to his day when he and Iris decided to remain platonic. He used that as the green light to pursue his feelings for Andreina, which led to them kissing in front of the entire villa.

Things weren’t going as well for some of the other couples. Amaya could feel Austin pulling away and she started to question whether she was the problem. Austin, meanwhile, told the guys he found it “so f***ing crazy” that Amaya was so interested in him just two days into their romance. Despite them not being on the same page, Amaya still found herself turned on by Austin cleaning the pool so maybe those two could have made it work — if Casa Amor wasn’t one day away.

Then there was Nic and Cierra, who were also struggling. After apologizing for their 25-second sex session (which Nic upped to 30 seconds on Sunday’s episode), Nic admitted to Cierra that he isn’t closed off just yet. This upset Cierra since she was ready to commit to Nic.

Huda was in a different predicament while trying to figure out where she stood with TJ. He ultimately let her down easy because of his strong connection with Iris.

Then it was time for the islanders to find out what America thought of each of them. Chelley, Cierra, Olandria and Huda ultimately received the most votes — as did Taylor, Ace and Nic.

That left Iris, Amaya and Hannah on the chopping block as the girls figured out which person to send home. They picked Hannah — who started to sob uncontrollably — while citing that she has made good use of the Love Island experience. Before Hannah left the villa, Olandria admitted in a confessional that she was starting to second guess their choice.

The guys, however, stood on business and chose to vote off Jeremiah over Pepe or Austin. None of them appeared as conflicted after citing America voting to split Jeremiah and Huda up as one of the reasons they chose him too. They also questioned how Jeremiah “has moved” in the villa before confirming that they were trying to think of the “bigger picture.”

Huda and Jeremiah — who said he felt betrayed by the guys — had one final conversation about their relationship. Hannah and Pepe also spoke before she left and he promised to find her when he got out of the villa.

In a sneak peek at the end of the episode, viewers got a glimpse at the five girls and six boys who would be introduced during Casa Amor.
