“My son Stirling looks so much like my brother to me,” the former Real Housewives of Orange County star wrote via her Instagram Story. “This loss has been devastating to all of us, but we cling to Jesus and each other.”

Lydia — who shares Stirling, 16, Maverick, 14, and Roman, 10, with husband Doug McLaughlin — also included a photo of her brother and late mom Judy Stirling as Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” played in the background.
“My family has experienced an unimaginable loss. My brother, Geoff, was tragically taken and our hearts are shattered ,” Lydia previously wrote via Instagram on April 19. “[‘Birds of a Feather’] was the song he turned to after we lost our mom. He’d cry every time. I can’t believe we’re facing this pain just 6 months after losing my best friend and mother. I know they’re both with Jesus now, and He’s walking with me through this darkness. One step at a time.

According to the Newport Beach Police Department, officers conducted a traffic stop on a motorcyclist at approximately 9:15 p.m. on April 17. The rider was later identified as Geoffrey.

“Shortly after being stopped, Stirling became uncooperative and assaulted the officer,” police said in a statement via Facebook on April 18. “During the ensuing violent altercation, Stirling managed to remove the department-issued taser from the officer’s duty belt and attempted to deploy it multiple times against the officer. At that point, an officer-involved shooting occurred.”
Geoffrey’s passing comes months after Lydia mourned the death of her mom Judy in October 2024 after a private battle with cancer.
When announcing her death, Lydia celebrated her mom’s joyful spirit and faith in God.
“We are heartbroken but we know she’s dancing with Jesus. Fairy dust, confetti bombs and crowns like heaven has never seen before ,” she wrote via Instagram. “What’s in the cat is in the kitten and I promise to continue to make you proud.”
