Minas Ceylin: The Sound of the Other

I met Minas Ceylin last month at a private party in Belgrade. She was glowing behind the DJ booth, lighting up the night with her track selections and captivating dance moves. Everyone there was swept up in the energy she created. Before stepping off the stage, she made an announcement that sent waves through the crowd her upcoming Turkish language EP, a five-track dance project, was on the way. Then, right there, she gave us a taste playing several tracks from the unreleased album.
I’ve been eagerly awaiting its release ever since, and as soon as it dropped, I met up with her again in Belgrade.
The heart of this album is the concept of otherness what it means to be the outsider. As a woman, as someone queer, as a Muslim, and simply as a human being Minas explores the many layers of not belonging. These aren’t just dance tracks they carry weight. In a world where fewer and fewer artists are willing to make music with meaning, Minas Ceylin dares to go deep.
Though the lyrics are in Turkish, the emotions are universal. We all know what it feels like to be on the outside looking in.
I applaud her for crafting such a powerful concept. This Turkish artist is building a devoted following throughout the Balkans and setting the city on fire in the process.
