This annual report is a critical pulse check for our industry, and in this session, we focused on what the findings mean for galleries and dealers navigating an increasingly complex and fast-moving market. We’ve unpacked some of the key findings below:
1. Digital channels aren’t optional — they’re essential.
In 2024, online channels accounted for 33% of all dealer sales — rising to 37% when including art fair Online Viewing Rooms. What’s most striking is that the majority of these online sales happened through dealers’ own platforms: websites, email campaigns, and social media. This reinforces what we see daily at Artlogic — galleries that invest in their digital infrastructure are better equipped to adapt, connect, and grow.
2. The high end slowed, but smaller galleries saw gains.
Dealer sales overall fell 6%, but this was largely driven by the highest segment of the market — dealers with over $10 million in turnover. In contrast, the smallest galleries (under $250,000) saw the highest growth. While some of this reflects ongoing recovery, it’s also a sign that more accessible price points and meaningful collector relationships are playing a stronger role in driving activity. For galleries of any size, this makes a strong case for using a smart CRM to track, understand, and nurture those client relationships — a vital asset in building long-term resilience.
3. Costs are up — and smart choices matter.
Dealers across the board cited rising costs as a key challenge, particularly around shipping, travel, and art fairs. As profitability becomes more important than sheer sales volume, making informed choices about where to invest time and money is crucial.
