Fans were grief-stricken after last week’s two-part special episode of 9-1-1 ended with a shocking sacrifice — but they will have to wait an extra week to see the aftermath.

Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), the lead character of the Ryan Murphy-produced drama about emergency responders, gave his only chance for survival to fellow firefighter Howard “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi). Already infected with a deadly virus, Bobby gave Chimney the vaccine and succumbed to his illness, leaving his wife Athena (Angela Bassett) to grieve the loss with the rest of the first responders.

Since there will be no new episode of 9-1-1 on ABC this week, fans will have some breathing room to process the loss.
